How can I render MPEG-2 for DVD faster?

So using Adobe media encoder to render for DVD takes like 3 hours or more for a 1 hour project. Why is it so long even on an dual Opteron 270 computer.
I used to use Matrox RTX100 in another computer which renders it in real time so a 1 hour project takes 1 hour to render to MPEG-2.
Is there another solution to make it faster ?

The standalone version of MainConcept mpeg Encoder is considerably faster although not realtime.

(I had an RTX100 and do not recall that it could achieve RT mpeg encoding but it may have ...)

you can encode your mpeg-2 using a constant bitrate (CBR) if you werent doing so already. I am pretty sure VBR encoding epspecially 2 pass variable takes longer (the two pass has to encode twice) Of course you sacrifice quality if you use a CBR
