How can I make my video look more like VIDEO?

Is there a way to really give footage that VIDEO look? I mean an exaggerated look. like maybe some lines and grainyness..... I suppose I could make some thin lined in photoshop and maybe add some grainy ness to the video and animate the lines in AE. Maybe some desaturation.. Can anyone help me out?

ok. I wish I could find a clip of what i'm talking about... I've seen some posts here where it's VERY exaggerated; like heavily cc in post with some effects.

I will just experiment a bit.

or just use a Sony.
ha. O_o

alot of people use a thin horizontal blind effect which causes it to look like you can see the rows of pixels horizontally. then you can add a little rgb noise and maybe make the bands roll a little. or you can use a pixel effect if you have one which makes it look like the pixels are larger so your looking at a lower res screen. you can adjust the size of the pixelated effect so that they arent hug but big enough to notice. and again maybe add a little rgb noise .. or you could just give it some blur. then add some noise, and apply a vertical hold or TV control type filter which alows you to apparently mess with the reception. anyway theres plenty of ways to do it, but those are just a few of the more noticable ways to do it. but if you want it to look like an actual tv .. as suggested before.. just play the material on an actual tv and shoot the tv screen.

I would say go with a late 80's model VHS recorder. Panasonic, JVC are some good ones to start with. You'll get a really bad picture with tons of dropouts and color smears / bleeding all over the place. I can't think of a better way to represent *VIDEO* than this. ~reservoir~

..im pretty sure hes talking about the "TV or security camera" look that youll see in alot of music videos when the screen is supposed to look like some sort of low res or bad quality video feed signal. similar to the look youll see in the new trailer for "The Ring 2".

yes exactly. I wansn't talking about bad quality video, just heavily affected.

That is a really good example.. although not what I thought of originally. Alot of those scenes in Ring and Ring 2 coming out.
