How can I flip a camera 180*?

Hey everyone, I am shooting a scene which starts with a man in a car, as the camera pulls back on a jib (rolling on a dolly) the camera needs to flip 180* to reveal the car is in fact upside down in an accident....

Besides building a rig, which I am sure I can do with enough free time, does anyone know of a rig we could use?

Thanks.

He wants to rotate the shot, so doing it in post would require a significant loss in resolution.

Correct, a post flip would look funny and require considerable zoom to not show the 16x9 image edges flipping 180. I need something like a fig rig, but it needs to mount on a jib arm and turn smoothly...

Thanks for the responses though.

get a fig and shoot it at 60fps. Then turn it real slow and steady. Speed it up in post. You don't need a jib arm.

You can rent a "panatate" from panavision...

or a Weaver 3-Axis head:

Or you can get yourself an "L" bracket and a couple of bolts...

Where can I get such a device? Look at lowes/Ace/HD in the hardware section, they have one for about $10, or you can look under your seat.

I made one from a broken office chair. Thick assed steel, right angle, strong enough to mount a BL4, and... FREE!!

Thank you! Thank you, I never thought of a sideways tripod head. I will look into how to mount the tripod head sideways on the jib arm. But this is certainly on the right track of what I am looking for.

Mucho gracias!

You can also put the camera upside down on a glidecam and swing it right side up as you move away from the car.

Really great idea, I just might have to toy around with that :D

You know... i was trying to figure out how do get that shot... This is so simple it crazy enough to work....

Great idea, I can use my manfrotto 755b leg and a L-shape bracket.

Because the 755b allows me to mount my head 90* It is way easier.

The stair case shot? I can't tell the rotation is off. Looks close enough for what I am going for. The only difference mine is facing ahead and not up.

>The stair case shot? I can't tell the rotation is off.

It's not. that's what I mean by nodal rotation, ie: the lens is at the center of the rotation axis. It's a subtle difference, but it makes a difference.
