How can I do this "effect" Inception

I just finished watching Inception for the first time. There is a effect at 2:14:45-2:15:00 that would work perfect for my dvxfest film. I am trying to figure out the easiest way to do it.

I guess I can't post stills or footage of it but it is where two men are talking and they pan around the man in the foreground and as they pan to the back side of him it is a different man in the background.

The difference is that the mother in my film would be the character in the forground and her 8 year old daughter would be ballet dancing. As I panned around the mother it would reveal the same ballet dancing but as a teenager. (Different girl obviously)

Any help would be appreciated.

I've never tried this, but I'd imagine that you could just film two takes--one with the 8-year old and one with the teenager--and cut them together in post as long as you don't change the dolly track and you maintain the same speed for both shots. You'd make the cut when there's nothing else moving in the frame other than the camera itself. At least that's where I'd start.

Yea, that is kind of what I am thinking. I don't have a dolly but I do have a jib crane that I could lock down and get a really close pan. Do the first one with the 8 year old girl then go back and do the pan without the mom and with the teenager. Then I could mask out the left frame from the back of her hair. I think that might work

you need a small rope that is fixed in the ceiling and the ground. it will make a guide so you are sure you shoot same position.

The real solution would be something like a computer-controlled camera on a motorized slider, and then the background would be a green screen (in Inception, the lake would be added in post).
