How can I create a timeline that is scaled to FPS?

First let me say I'm not talking about simply dragging the timecode video FX onto a video. I need to know if there is some way I can create the timecode so that it's correct with the FPS count. Basically what we're trying to do at work is create a timecode or timestamp for our current budget highspeed cameras so that we don't have to use crude methods of getting an approximate time of the subject.

We will be getting some Phantom highspeed cameras later down the road so I'm sure those will come with some software that might handle this for us but for the mean time I'd like to know if there is anyway we can do this in Vegas Pro 9.

Basically let's say I shoot something at 500 FPS for 5 seconds. Is there any way to get Vegas to show me a timeline in relation to realworld seconds and not how many seconds the clip is (5 seconds)? Basically I need the timecode to be scaled to the amount of "slow motion". In other words the timecode would appear to be slowed down just like the video would be rather than it just counting to however long the video is.

Hope that makes sense. If you guys can suggest a way for me to make this happen that would be great or if Vegas can't do this then recommend a software that can.

If it will always be the same frame rate, you could prebuild a reference timing track in Vegas, just the timecode video FX with a transparent background, save it, then reimport the rendered result and stretch it to the required slo-mo speed? (Although Vegas can only speed/slow a track by 400%, so you might need to do this step more than once). A pain to set up, but then you'd have the track ready to endlessly reuse for future projects.
