How big an external hard drive for this plan?

I will be in three different countries in Africa on safari for three weeks. About 16 are shooting days. Most of those are three-hour game drives of which I’m going to aim for shooting no more than 15 min on average. Then I have 3-4 hours in camp where I can recharge, offload, and then go out again for a second drive. I’ve shot this way before, but with the PD 150 and tapes. Now, I’ve just gotten this HVX. :) I would like to keep it to 8 hours max of shooting for the trip so I can handle the storage while traveling. The end result will be a personal document meant to be seen on my HDTV, dvds for friends, and maybe bits on some websites.

In terms of workflow, I’ll have the fs 100, a 4 and 8 gb P2 card, and an old Titanium Powerbook, 15 inch, with card slots and a 60 gb hd that’s half full. Travel weight is quite restricted due to some very small planes (3 and 5 seaters).

I’m considering getting the biggest g-tech mini at 320gb. The weight is about a pound. Say I leave Africa with the FS 100 full (not offloaded), the two cards not offloaded, and the Pb holding some of the clips, then is the 320 gb enough?

Concerns – if the game viewing turns out to be exceptional, and I shoot over my estimate, I have no way of offloading it and I can’t even imagine trying to buy a HD in Africa. I’m planning on ordering or buying the G-tech this weekend so interested in any feedback.

You have the money for the safari....why not put another $200 for twice the capacity, that way you run safe....you may need the space for something more ,check between g-raid and graid2

emiranda and Bennishahn, you are probably right. One more pound but then I don't have to worry about the space.
