How big a generator do I need?

Kino's and other high frequency sources are not a concern as their output is not related to the mains frequency. Only sources which use magnetic ballasts are directly effected by the mains frequency. If you have any concerns at all, just stick with flicker free ballasts (keep in mind that they do require more power) and you will be fine at any shutter angle you wish to use.

If Wooden Nickel has encountered no issues or complaints with the EU series, I would have no concerns myself as Wooden Nickel certainly is one of the better rental houses in Souther California and they would have gotten reports from afflicted users.

Another question about the EU series genny's. Can you run stuff of the household plugs and the twist lock plug at the same time? Or is it either or? Also I've been seeing some conflicting specs on the household plug. The US honda site is claiming 20A and the Canadian site - they call their model a 3000isCA claims 15A. Maybe it's dependent on the model type?

Standard Edison mains connectors are limited to a 15 Amp service leg by code. The twist lock connector can be either a 20 amp service (more common) or a 30 amp one.

My EU2000i generators only feature a standard household 15 amp plug, no twist lock. Although they do offer a bannana plug separated outlet as well. I combine my two EU2000i with a homemade dual 120 volt ac plug to 30 amp RV plug connector, although I use that to plug my RV into, not lights.

Best,

Dan

Thanks guys. Ya I was looking at the 3K version which has a twist lock. I was just wondering whether the households and twistlock share the same circuit or if you can power devices off both concurrently?

So it's like a Y-cable? With two male ends household going to one female end 30A RV plug?

That's the gen I have, only mine is the EU1000 model. Very quiet for sure, and will run like 8 hours on a quart of gas. We got it 2 years ago, after the hurricanes wreaked havoc down here, and FEMA even paid for it.

Hi Barry:

Yes, you got it. The only downside is that if one of the 120 household plugs becomes dislodged, it is live and obviously dangerous. I usually run both on the back of my truck and make sure that no kids or adults come near them.

I suppose I could also have wired the two into some sort of 30 amp lunchbox for powering multiple lights as well?

Would this same cable work in theory in a house? Like run one leg to one 15amp circuit and the other leg to another 15amp circuit yielding a combined 30amp 120V? I was thinking this could be great to power a 2500 HMI or something larger like that.

I found out that the EU3000isCA is the Canadian model. It generates a maximum of 23.3 amps at 120V. It's either 15amps max from the household OR 23.3 from the twistlock not both at the same time.

I dont know If this has been said yet, but if you do go with a Honda Genny, but they are much quiter than other brands, so your audio guy wont get angy :-D

Hi Barry:

My father in law is an electrician, I will ask him, I am not sure. I was hoping to have him wire an access in my home's main fuse panel in case of power outages, I could use my two Hondas to power the house.

I am sure that there is some way to power a larger instrument with the two of these, I just want to talk to a pro to make sure how to do it safely.

Best,

Dan
