I'm looking at buying a used sony dv gv-d1000, but it had Sony tapes run in it and I am only using Panasonic - can I swap tape stocks via some kind of cleaning technique or am I just better off buying a crappy new camcorder and using that for digitizing?
I bought a used gv-d900 used about a year ago and I never thought about that tape thing. So no, I've never had a problem. It seems to me if that tape thing really exists today there would be post after post, lawsuits (many people make money from there cameras and tapes) and statements from camera manufacturers saying something like "NEVER USE ANY TAPE OTHER THAN . . . ".

DUDE i DUNNO, possibly if u use the cleaning tape before u ever putting the panny tapes in. I have seen my uncle ruin several minidv cams and not know why. also after using the cleaning tape wait a little bite incase it uses a cleaning solution. I have seen mud get made on the heads from the wet cleaning tapes.
