How best to position mic inside blimp?

Based on advice I found in other threads here, I just got a medium-size K-Tek Zeppelin/windsock system for my Audio Teknica shotgun (think it's a 4073a), for situations like interviewing drivers at a car racing track where there's wind and car noise. Should I position the tip of the recording end of the mic as close as possible to the front foam cap (without it touching of course), or center it inside? Appreciate the help.

The more air space around the mic the better.

No, for best results the front of the mic should not be close to the front of the zeppelin. Generally, the front of the mic should be at the joint/seam between the windscreen body and front dome section. The rear should be similar, making sure you have enough space to accommodate the connector/wiring. Better to err on the side of a larger windscreen if necessary.

Red, always follow the manuals instructions, download it if necessary. Never post you don't know what shotgun you own, forum folk get an idea of your level of proficiency :)

Cheers.

Actually what maplecap said. You want to be at the center of the ball that would be made if the half dome front of the zep were completed, so at the seam where it joins the tube section. This gives you an even amount of dead air around the mic.
