How about Vue?

So I'm doing some matte paintings in CS4 and I was thinking about integrating Vue for a specific futuristic city establishing shot animation.

Not looking to purchase the entire set; maybe just something like Science Fiction, Vue 9, maybe with some additional Cornucopia stuff?

Anyone had any experience with Vue?

I played around with the demo a year or so ago to see if I wanted to add its workflow to my 3ds Max work. I found the interface clunky and non-intuitive. Not feeling particularly inspired by it, I gave it up.

I've used it. it is one of the simpler 3d programs to use, but i've found it is rather buggy. if its gonna a be a still matte, you should be good. I've always had noise and flicker issues when rendering out sequences. both tiffs and .AVI's. but you can get impressive results fairly quick.

Yeah, I'm thinking about just starting with the basic 200 buck Vue 9 set-up. Apparently they've dramatically reduced flicker. Also, I'm wondering since I'm doing a futuristic steampunk style city, with enough atmosphere and affects from AE, maybe I might be able to reduce the flicker to something unnoticable.

Right now I'm just trying to read up on the integration of Vue and AE. I'm assuming that I can bring the Vue objects/render into AE as 3D and then just workflow from there. But even if I have to bring it in as a finished render and then just layer AE on top of the video I think I can still get a usable establishing shot. The true exteriors will be in Gary, IN where there's this great dilapitated steampunk feel already. It'll just be a matter of bringing in some green screened miniatures for flybys and doing some basic holo images on some of the buildings in AE.

I dont think the 200 bucker will let ya do that. they save the real features for infinite and xStream. XStream especially. Keep in mind its a landscape/atmo generator, not a modeler. but i could be wrong. I'd love to see it upon completion though.
