How about the GY-DV500U vs. the DVX100

Anyone knows about this camera and how it compares image wise to the DVX100. I know it does not have 24P but what about features. I read it has 1/2 inch CCD's. Right now BH Photo has a deal were you get about $800 off with all the rebates.

any comments?

We have the JVC 500 which is the older version of the GY-DV500U. It's been a great cam and as you say it's 60i NOT progressive. It's a work horse SD cam that as far as I'm concerned is well spent money.

Great camera, but it's not progressive and doesn't have a 24 fps option. If it did, it would take over the DVX because it is a pro type camera, interchangable lens, solid power supply system, great switches, not the garbage switches the DVX uses, etc.

It's a great camera. I've used it on a couple shoots. Very solid. I still prefer the progressive footage of the DVX, but it's a great interlaced camera.

It all depends on what you're shooting. It's a great "video" camera, but I would stick to my dvx for indie films.
