How about Canon Lenses for Letus Extreme?

I just ordered a Letus Extreme bundle from Letus (because frankly people on here selling theirs just want too much for them. Whoever said everyone is ditching them for the DSLR's......HA!)

Anyway my question is:

I have a Canon EOS (XSI) digital slr. I bought the canon lens mount for the letus so I could use the same lenses (mounted to the Letus, which will be mounted to my HVX 200).
Being that these are lenses for digital slrs that have a smaller image chip than a standard 35mm sensor, will this effect the depth of field I will get with the letus as opposed to using a different mount and older, standard lenses or prime lenses?

Thanks

Rich

Problem with the EOS lenses is that they do not have manual iris control. That is why Nikon is preferred. Adapter users prefer the FD Canon lenses because of that. However, if you preset the iris on your XSI I believe it will stay that way when you mount it on the Letus. Not to worry about magnification factor, because any slr lens will give the same effect. Not sure how EF vs EF-S will differ.

DOF is not affected by sensor size, only FOV. With the Letus you can get somewhere between FF35 and S35 FOV. The EFS lenses will give the same FOV as their EF counter part, BUT they are optimized to provide even illumination over only a small part of that image. This is fine for APSC sized sensor but on a Letus this will result in massive vignetting.

The advantage for EF lenses is that there's such a large selection of high quality zoom and primes to choose from, but optics aside they're a poor choice for adapter use. No iris ring, short focus throw, heavy weight (to accomodate the autofocus motor that you won't use) and of course they're extremely expensive. Canon FD lenses is a far better value for adapter use. Optically they rival the newest Canon glass and you have all the advantages that comes with them being fully manual, and at a much more affordable price.

Thanks guys thats very much needed help. Guess i'll be returning the EOS digital lens mount for the FD mount and looking on ebay for lenses. :-)

I use a EF mount(EOS, whatever..) on my M2 and I'm happy with it. I actually don't even use a EF on it though....nothing but M42 mount lenses using a EF to M42 adapter.

I would experiment with the mount you've purchased, using the lens kit you already have and see if you're happy with it...and perhaps try to find fellow users of your adapter near you who have different mounts...that way you can see what theirs looks like and perhaps send yours back....or just trade off adapters depending on projects....god knows that 2-3 people who trade can have alot more kit between them then a lone person.
