House of a 1000 Corpses

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
I just started this and won't finish tonight (It's like 11:51 pm) but I have to say:

Jesus this is cool. How did this get by me? I'm in awe right now. It's like a fun-house from hell come to life. Just beautifully weird and real feeling. Review inthe manana.

OMFG...that movie is madddd crazy! Rob Zombie is kinda kooky to think of that kinda ****.

Great movie...lots-o-gore meter goes thru the roof for me. haha

I think the weirdest part is when she's in that long ass hallway with those dead ppl and she like goes to hell and that dude with chains..woah...

I heard they making a sequel to it...be sure to check dat shizz out.

"The Devils Rejects" is the sequel and it's out this month, hell yesssss!

Again, 1,000 corpses is one of my favorites for the genre. It is THE horror camp movie and the bar for flat out over the top insanity imo. Love it

It takes a little from every classic out there and jams it into 27th gear. Zombies, chainsaw family, Frankenstein, evil clowns, cult, etc.

The "older" Private Ryan guy playing the father of that one girl is strange as well. His agent had him all over the place those few years.

Anyway, if you dig the genre, you MUST own that film.

Yeah man, I knew this was gonna be a "killer" movie from the moment I heard about it (back in 2002-3). I guess Miramax was originally gonna release it but then Rob Zombie made a comment to some news organization that went something along the lines of "only miramax is sick enough to release a movie like this" and they got all insulted so they dropped it. SO low and behold our friend Rob decides to make it himself and you KNOW its gonna kick ass. This is why i KNOW that Devil's Rejects is gonna be off the hook.

It's weird. I had heard about this but just never got to seeing it. I always thought it looked strange with the One Sheet:

This really doesn't say anything about the film IMO. This is an amazing bringing to life of some weird macabre, rock-a-billy, gothic, fun-house 70's grindhouse, early 80's slasher mayhem.

This quote from THE AISLE SEAT sums it up for me:

"What unspooled over the next 88 minutes was like someone took the aforementioned Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Last House on the Left, mixed them with Fangoria magazine, vintage erotica, cheesy late-night horror movie hosts, carnival haunted houses, and the collected body of work of Hershell Gordon Lewis, then shoved them into Rob Zombie's id and blended it all into one bizarre concoction. "

If you like Rocky Horror you will love this.

As the character's are introduced I am literally dropping my jaw:

Karen Black (Are you kidding me?) Trilogy of Terror anyone?

Bill Moseley (Look him up and you'll appreciate this) Here's a hint "Lick my plate; dog dick" Name that movie and you get a prize.

Sig Haig (Just think blaxpoitation; THX1138 and Diamonds are Forever)

and

Sheri Moon - Just plain smoking hot (have you ever even seen a Rob Zombie Album Cover?)

This film is such a detour from the crap excuse horror films released today like Boogeyman, The Cave, Dark Water, The Jacket, Constatine, Cursed. Think about it; how many so called horror films are released these day's with a PG-13 Rating?

Exactly.

Through the entire film thus far I am asking What the hell? Is this for real? We have all passed a house in the middle of nowhere and said to ourselves "I wouldnt stop there for no ****ing reason ever..." and this is your worst nightmare when you do.

You are either going to get this or you are not. Period. This film has an RT rating of 16% and something about that is kind of cool. Do I want Rogert Ebert liking this film? This is one of the more original films I have seen in years. The soundtrack kicks ass; I Wanna Be Loved by You (Helen Kane), Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue (Ramones), I Remember You (Slim Whitman) and the title track is classic Rob Zombie.

This film has a unique editing style; Baby's charcter (Give me a B, Give me an A...) is flirting with one of our hapless victims and the editing cut's to a montage of her dancing and screaming into the camera; it's cool. There are flashes to a vintage LATE NIGHT HORROR show that is so vintage it's delicious.

I find this film Hypnotic. That is something I can barely say about any film I have seen. Twisted, bizarre, hypnotic and downright inspiring.

I cannot wait for the DEVILS REJECTS now that I know the backstory. Rob Zombie is one cool dude.

I give this 4 out of 5. (I'm a sucker for original horror; you know that)

I don't think you can sum it up any better. I've watched this with some people that were like "WTF??? Dude you actually dig this???" and then some other friends that put it on at parties just for the background noise and visuals, there's always some point when passing by that you can check in and be "WHOA!!!".

And me and my very closest friends still start our evenings out with well let's "get f*cked up and do some f*cked up sh*t" . (great part of a line from the movie)

haha John I can't believe you didn't mention my favorite scene. The part where the killer is standing over the cop with the gun aimed and then.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................BANG!

Such a ****ing awesome movie!

Btw your so right about horror movies these days sucking the big one, I mean come on when you watch House of 1000 corpses you actually feel how shitty it would be to be in the main characters' shoes.

Here's the killer though, I never got the dvd so I missed out on all the behind the scenes goodies :(

That is one of my favorite kill shots of all time!

haha right on Null! I cant believe its been such a while since Ive seen this movie, damn Im going out to get it right now!

I remember watching that scene and Im just sitting there thinking "man you really got yourself in a pickle there, eh copper... wait... holy **** is this really dragging on like this? Yes! Yes!"

-Edalgo

Damn; the SF are pretty cool. Nice rehearsal and interview footage and they talk about PART 2 (Rejects) but waaaaayyy before they even are in prodcution so its kind of interesting.

It's so true about todays horror films having zero balls; (Dawn 04 was cool.)

That scene you are talking about was great; the way they held on for so long and then.....

Devils Rejects is going to be completely insane. Cannot wai't.

It really makes you wonder what it is that people find scary. Like is it some rediculously stupid CG ghost or is it an unevenly built, dimly lit corridor with razor blades lining the wall and mirrors all over the place that lead you into those walls or what? I wouldnt mind making a horror movie but only if I was certain I had a solid script on m hands, like what Rob zombie had goin for him with House of 1000 corpses.

-Edalgo

Exactly; CG in horror usually never works. It's usually best served with an organic real approach. I thin kwhy Hoa1kC work's so well is the PSYCHO AMBUSH on the senses. And then stopping and thinking Holy ****; this happens. This ****ing happens to people.

Damn you Nulll! You're suppossed to say

Who's there?

LOL, sorry dude, I stole the punch

I think a lot of the recent "horror" movies are still scary to people just getting into it but the 25+ and 30+ and 35+ (I'm 34) are so desensitized that when a movie comes out that takes itself so seriously it's like "WTF?".

All the hype around "White Noise" and "Saw" I was like coooool. Then I saw them and while "Saw" was kinda cool it just wasn't the ride you expected like the first time you saw "Friday the 13th" or something.

Dawn of the Dead and Texes Chainsaw sort of got back to that just bashing of the senses and they're cool also imo but this one just straps you in and says a big "**** You, check this out" for an hour and a half.

Yes yes yes

I'm 35.

We came from Jaws, Carrie, Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Dawn of the Dead. Remember Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things? The Hills Have Eyes? The Last House on the Left? Remember Fulchi? The Omen? THe Shining? The Amityville Horror? Invasion of the Body Snatchers? Phantasm? Salem's Lot? And The Exorcist?

Now those are horror films I remember.

A Nightmare on Elm Street? Night of the Demons? The 80's had some nice slasher films as well.

Now they are GCI fest's and Rated PG-13.
