Ill be shooting a film that takes place in a hotel room and what im wondering is. Since i'll be paying for the room do you still need permission to shoot there?

Hate to say it, but that is the way I'd do it too. I'm all for keeping things on the level, but if you don't have insurance and you're doing things on an indy type budget...well...um...I never saw anything.

I've shot in 3 different hotels just this year, so just do it quietly (i refrained from yelling action and cut on every scene and just gave a hand signal) that way your next door neighbors will never know what you are doing.

I've done both. one shoot was a $6k horror feature. The producer just drove til he found a motel 6 in Burbank. we had to keep the noise down and There was all kinds of paranoia on the set for fear of being kicked out. the footage sucked because we had to make do.

The other shoot was in the desert, we shot there for 3 days and booked the crew (5 people) at the hotel we were shooting at. They were happy to have us in the off season. We were up front with what were were doing and had free reign of the place. The even let us use the hotel office and conference room as locations for other scenes for no charge. Great footage and great memeories.

Ask ahead of time if you can.
