Hotel rooms with old tubes

Just shooting the breeze...

Myself and 6 or 7 others fly out to Ontario every few weeks to work on OHL broadcasts, and the hotel we all stay at, has crappy 24" CRT TV sets with no analog inputs, and only the RF input works, but it's locked up to the in-house decoder. Why they put coax locks on those, I'll never know.

Anyways, we're bummed because short of bringing a plasma panel (not enough room on the plane to haul something like that in a road case) or an LCD projector, we're hooped for being able to have a movie-night in the room.

I stayed in a place in Chicago, had a 42" LCD , a little bulkhead on the desk...I was impressed.. had just shot some waterfront with my HMC-150, but didn't have a HDMI cable.. Grrr...

And at night.. would love to watch big movies in bed... instead I use my 8.9" Acer One netbook. I also bring my WD TV just in case I can score an HDMI or Composite connection.

So... my gripe is hotel rooms that are stuck in the 90's.

What do you people usually find when you travel, and is the room fairly media friendly ( WiFi & Ethernet or only one type, TV set type, handy plugs, so on). Can a chain be counted on to be standard for these things?

Curious to hear from you all.

I was in LA last week and my room at the Raddison had a 20 inch Tube (with crappy color), and the Wifi was dial up slow. Very disappointing. But usually when on the road I do not get a whole lot of time to lounge and watch movies/

I'm not on the road too much anymore but when I do go out. I set standards right away if they are paying. And If the client won't pay then I usually do. I learned my lesson many years ago and I have and Will not stay at a cheap hotel. No Super 8's, No Sleep Inn, no Comfort INN. I just can't do it. I don't mind paying the extra dough myself for a good nights sleep and all of the percs that come along with staying a nicer hotel. I don't need a 5 star luxury suite, just a suite will suffice.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Just my 2.

Well just think an old predicta tv goes for about $1000 and up (depending on condition), should have asked if they were selling any. The tv is used heavily in film production as a cool old tv. They smell like vomit (the old plastic smell) and depending on what year, can kill you if drop or the tube is hit. They're vacuumed TV's and will explode when hit with enough impact, well at least that's what I was told.
