Hey guys, I have a shoot tomorrow with 2 800w halogen redheads and last week both bulbs blew and had to wait for the damn units to cool down :Drogar-Thinking(DBG before we could swap bulbs, annoying, now advice needed.
Is it better to turn the lights of inbetween takes to help keep cool and preserve bulb life or is this counter-productive?

Bit n00by eh so thanks for any assistance :-)

It's generally the spike of turning them on that usually blows them. For both to blow on a shoot is likely an indicator of an electrical fault at that location or with the redheads themselves. Have your redheads checked and tagged by an electrical testing service (should only be around $5 a unit if you take them in), surge protectors might help on the location. Take spare bulbs and thick gloves just in case (still let them cool down some).

all of the above,

-more expensive lights have soft start

also i have 3 redheads but only ever plan 2 into a lights design, meaning I always have one to swap in

Ah sweet advice, ill take 3, one did blow on power up actually, and the other bulbs contact broke into pieces but suspect it may have been a water droplet getting in as was in a cave.
OK great advice.
As long as I know powering the lights down doesnt effect reliability then thats one less thing to worry about, thanks again.
