HOSTING A FORUM

I would like to make a forum but I don't know where to put it!  I've downloaded Yabb but my problem is that I haven't found anywhere on the web (free) to put it.  The only place I knew was multimania but I can't transfer a folder... I've to transfer file by file and create every subfolder and it's way too long!

I would just fork out the cash and get your own hosting. Any of the free ones will be ad-supported and very slow. You can get web hosting really cheap these days, as little as 7 USD per month. And then you'll have a space to load your videos for people to download!

I can recommend some highly ranked hosts if you want to go this route...

How can I get my own hosting? I've a mac and it's always running and my connexion is very good. Is it possible to host my forum myself?

Forget it it's just gonna be too complicated. Frizzle, I'd like to know what you recommand me. I need a place where I'll can put a Yabb forum ( I'd like o be able to transfer a whole folder) and I will probably put some video on it.

http://www.startlogic.com/
http://www.lunarpages.com/
http://www.powweb.com/

I have no personal experience with these hosts, and recommend them solely based on my extensive research. Disjecta uses PowWeb and gives them good marks. All three are under $8/mo.

I'm looking for a new host right now, and am leaning toward StartLogic for their really cool control panel. I'll give a more thorough review once I decide and sign up.

Another one:
http://www.ipowerweb.com has been at or near the top of the ratings for a few years running.

You're ISP probably gives you something like 10 or 20MB of storage to do what you like with. Look on their help pages to find out how to host it on your ISP. If you can't figure it out, send an email to tech support and ask for help.

Re: HOSTING A FORUM

My last question is how big is a forum? Does it take a lot a space. I know Yabb is like 5MB but what about the posts and new user? Will I get enough space with 2Gig? Or after a months it's going to be full?
