horrible scripts?

I just want to know, how it is possible to geta movie made such as "big Bad Wolf" if you havent seen it dont, I mean do these production company's that front up the money for horrible movies like this, do they read the script before giving these people money to make it. It just seems like such a wast of film and money, how do I find company's like this cuz if they think a script like that is worth making, jeez. I need there number. I hope non eof you guys wrote that?

Actually yes they do read the script! and the script was probably good! then they hired a producer and a director, and they got their hands on it and decided to re-write it. and then the executive producer wanted it to be about cowboys... or that there should at least be a strong cowboy theme.... then that didnt work out so they threw away the whole script and re-wrote an entirely different story and thats what you got.

who knows...

but a project doesnt usually get picked up if its bad to begin with, it usually gets mangled in the "proccess"

People find each other sometimes...like they went to school together or are friends that meet somewhere and share a common desire to make films...if one has money bingo...they often dont even know what a good script is...Sometimes some people also have a desire to be producers but know little about the process, and ...well you can guess what happens from there too...There are countless reasons these films get made and its not just low budget films either...some studios have a franchise and are on a schedule and access to and actor or director or both and have the arrogance to put the film into works on a bad draft,,,this is a reality but this is what I find most disheartening...especially if the actor is contractually obligated to do the film that he knows has a sucky script...Bottom line is that it often comes out of relationships. Get involved in any way you can in the industry and connect...you may not get the studio connection but there are many of these low level types you speak about around Hollywood...but if you really want to make good movies, I think you might be disappointed when meeting them...

Good luck,

Yes, scripts get read. Actors are always bad judges on scripts. Producers aren't.

Everyone thinks there's a terrible film out there that shouldn't have gotten made because their one crappy film is better that that one.

Good luck.

Producers aren't bad judges of scripts? That is such a general statement, that it cannot be true.

What producers?

I would say producers CAN be terrible judges of script. Take the old annecdote that the original exact script for casablanca was re-titled and sent to many studios. Most people didn't recognize it, and they all deemed it bad... or not good enough.

Well, Casablanca is a pretty old fashioned movie. It's a great movie, but it wouldn't really work today, at least without a lot of re-writing. It's surprising that most people didn't recognize it though.

I have to disagree with this statement. Some actors and some producers are good at choosing scripts and some aren't. We see this all the time in Hollywood. And frankly I believe that it's an actor's job, as much as it is a producer's, to be able to choose a script that is good for them, or even good at all.

Sometimes it astound me that movies can be so bad. Epic Movie is probably the worst I've seen in a while. Bad, bad, bad.
