horizontal spikes in 25 fps PAL progressive

I promise I have looked everywhere I can to try to sort this out, but nothing seems to work.
The excellent images from my DVX-100B get completely f*cked in Vegas 6 whenever there is any lateral movement through a shot.
Very very bad horizontal spiky fringes - and even lines right through things.
OK, I'm sure it must be something simple, but I've tried everything I can think of.
Capture is definitely 25 progressive; and Vegas is set to 25 progressive.
What am I doing wrong?
Any help much appreciated before I wonder if I wasted the 250 uk pounds or whatever that Vegas cost.
If you insist I could try to put a still image up, but honestly this is NOT a subtle thing. Anyone would notice it. It is BAD.

Thanks for the reply.
25p, I would swear..... but I guess these nasty artifacts would be typical of if I were shooting in 50i and then putting them into Vegas at 25p?!
I just checked the scene file F5, which I believe I was using, and it's still set to 25P. I'll try to do some more test shooting today.

Oh god, of course it's user error. For some reason Vegas would default to 25i in Project Properties - the box would read 'lower field first' .
I've changed it (I hope) so it will default to 25P.
**Thanks for your help.**
Just as an aside, is there not a way that Vegas can analyse video capture and set itself to the right format automatically?
Otherwise, is there a foolproof way of remembering whether I used 50i or 25P for a particular shoot?

Capture doesn't have anything to do with project settings, and project settings are manually set by the user.

You can change the default to 50p by setting up that project and then clicking the little box which says "Start all new projects with these settings" before you click "apply."

As for the footage, right-click on it and check the media properties.
