Horizontal gradient?

Hey, I need to be able to apply a gradient that goes from side to side, rather than from top to bottom. For that matter, a gradient on a diagonal line would also be sweet. I haven't been able to find one in either FCP or Magic Bullet, only the standard vertical gradient.

Does something like this exist in either FCP or Magic Bullet and I'm just not seeing it? I have tried using soft edges on my clip with a colored and textured clip underneath, but I find that it encroaches on the subject in my main clip too much.

Yes, it can be done in FCP. Look for "Custom Gradient" and "Gradient" in the "Render" folder in the Generators (in the Effects tab, or drop down under the "A" button in the lower right corner of the Viewer).
