Hope for us all.

As you are most aware, the film 28 Days Later is available on DVD (I know, it's been available in Europe for awhile). THis being the CAFE, I wanted to make some observations.

There is hope for us all.

The film as most of you are aware was shot with the Canon XL1s (I'll put soap in my mouth now). Granted, they attached about a hundred thousand dollars in lenses and accesories to the camera, but my point is this:

With the right planning and production and the Pani DVX100 24p, there is no reason why any one of us cannot put together a film and get it picked up for distro (See the ART film).

The Canon used was in PAL mode which I understand is even closer to the filmic qualities we all strive for, which brings me back to the DVX, which is in 24p. Yeah baby.

Get a killer story, get a killer crew together and shoot the lights out. If we can put together a project that has the same impact as 28 Days Later, it could change your life. :)

Any thoughts on this?

Re: Hope for us all.

The only way the XL1s made sense was in PAL mode, more vertical lines of rez to help the lack of horizontal rez.

hmmm, I sense the nucleus of a conspiracy brewing here. Perhaps a project with different chapters, each chapter written and directed by one of the members of this new conspiracy, within a predetermined framework of story?

I am not sure how else we could do something when separated by a continent or two. One possibility might be to get a more traditional script agreed upon, schedule a date for the shooting, then the three or six members of the Cabal show up on an assigned date with their basic equipment. Now we have three or more cameras, god knows how many mics and mixers etc. This involves tougher coordination, more expense etc.

Re: Hope for us all.

I didn't mean 'we' as in COLLECTIVELY; I meant 'we' as in RESPECTIVELY.

Nevertheless, it is an interesting conundrum.

By the way; I watched the FLICK last night (first time I've seen it on t.v. of course) and the visuals are amazing. Only the trained eye can see it is not film.

I have nothing but respect for you.:) Sorry for the mis-understanding, although it is an intriguing idea.

Re: Hope for us all.

INteresting it is. I'm a San Diego guy. Seems like everyone else is in Canada!

I do want to shoot a zombie flick though. You know what?

I have always wanted to do a Zombie flick and now it is the Popular thing to do. By the time I get around to it, it will be passe'.

What do you do?

Re: Hope for us all.

I think the funniest variation on the zombie theme was done on the series LEXX. Those little carrot shaped robots that would take over a person (destroying them in the process).

One of these robots would attract a persons attention in a non-threatening manner then would slowly back away as though afraid of the human. A second robot would circle around behind the human and wait for them to bend over for a better look at this odd thing. That second robot would then spin around, direct its pointy end at the human fanny, then launch itself deeply where it is most painful, to disappear from sight. The camera would cut just as the person straightens up and inhales.

There have got to be some more clever ideas left on this theme.

Re: Hope for us all.

There are always new ideas.

Sides, it's not what's been done, but how you do it.

BTW Getting DVX Tomorrow (PAid for ONight Shipping)
