Has anyone else seen this movie?! I saw it at Tribeca this year, it was frickin great!!!
It was called "Hooligans" then, now it's Green Street Hooligans. Trust me. This is a killer flick, but in a suprising twist, no Hollywood studios want to touch it...it's still an indie.
It swept SXSW (Jury and Audience awards), it's gotten rave reviews. But here's the problem, the movie makes no bones about the fact that these footballers are loyal to their brothers and enjoy beating the living **** out of the opposing fans before, during, and after a match. The studios say it's too violent and that it glorifies it and that Americans aren't interested in a soccer movie. It's really a great look into this world. Insane! It's more about these guys getting each other's backs than people getting jacked up than the violence or the sport, but you know how sensitive us Americanos can be sometimes...
Anyhow they have now landed some theaters in NYC, LA, and Chicago and if you live in those cities I urge you to go see it when it opens September 9th. I hate seeing great movies disappear. This one deserves recognition. The website says it will post the theaters once they line them up: www.greenstreethooligans.com
Stars Elijah Wood (I know, I know, but he totally sheds "Frodo" after this), Claire Forlani, Terence Jay, and introducing Charlie Hunnam (a newcomer who is damned promising here).
Directed by Lexi Alexander. A really cool badass chick that my wife and I got to meet at the fest (she lived in this world and that's why she made the movie - for all her boys).
