Hooking multiple cameras into a mac and streaming live

I'm trying to find out what hardware/software I would need.

I'm basically hooking up 4 dvx100s into a mac g5 and then I want to broadcast over the internet. Is this as simple as long fire wire cables+the appropriate program?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I haven't tried it myself but you might check out what NewTek has to offer.
I don't think it's firewire though, I think it's component video that they switch.

I am not aware of any professional grade software that will let you do this. There's CamTwist which lets you add effects to your camera and then makes the stream appear as a physical camera to the mac, so you can use it with Stickam.com and such for broadcasting over the internet.

You could also maybe use QuickTime Broadcaster, but as with CamTwist, it is not a true mixing app.

In terms of hardware, I am not sure that firewire will work too well (or at all) as I believe there is only 1 firewire bus in the iMac G5, and I think that it won't handle 4 cameras.

I believe you would need a Hardware video mixer to do this. The problem is, video mixers are very pricey, and ones with firewire are twice as much.
