Honda's Segway-style unicycle

Almost as pointless as that sony rolly thing. Cool though, and like the rolly, its a good way to show off what these companies are capable of...

Am I the only one who thinks that guy looks kinda young to be president of Honda?

I guess I'm just gettin old....

If I want something that travels on one wheel, I'll get myself a monocycle:

Yuck. At least on the Segway you stand on your feet and actually having fun. I rode Segway couple of times, since then they updated it, so now you turn with tilting the column, not by turning the handle, this is a huge improvement.

This crappy folding toilet on a wheel does nothing good for your posture and it is not fun at all. It could be good for moving from one bench to another to another to another on a large factory. Yay, more productivity, less break time.

Ugh.

Great technical achievement, typical for Japanese engineering: take someone's idea and improve and polish it. It is not groundbreaking after we've seen the Segway. So it has one more degree of freedom, but the concept originated on the Segway, which still is more usable and loads of fun. If I did not have to drive 20 miles to work, and if the bike roads were safer and more abundant, I would get the Segway.

I think this ignores the market they're going after. Elderly and disabled people wouldn't be able to use that effectively from what I can tell, and they wouldn't care about it looking sleek and futuristic.

Also, my girlfriend once told me that not only would she love me more if I were good at riding a unicycle, but she dies a little inside every day that I'm not.

There is no market... it's a techno-toy... and it's got me laughing green with envy.

If I had that thing I'd get perched up on it in the center of my garage... with an HMI directly behind me... then I'd open the garage door and roll out to get the morning paper in my pajamas... while an instrumental "jesus christ, superstar" blares over my roof-mounted pa system... but hey, maybe it's just me... seeing the true potential in this thing.

All they need is a marketing plan that targets just you, very specifically, with all sorts of personal details of how to get you to buy... and a high enough price point to cover making the one they plan to sell.

whatta'ya' mean? I gots the first ticket on the wait-list... I'm just waiting for that guy to get off the damn thing.

(I see Sadmax's deleted post and hope he realizes all my comments have been in jest... if I rode that thing out to get the morning paper I'd be the second most famous person since Lance Armstrong... to ride out of my garage on a single ball.)

I'm gonna have to agree with Sad Max on this one. If I am going to get some sort of silly looking mono-wheeled vehicle, I at least need to be able to justify my purchase by being able to drive it on standard roads or the highway.

Just think how cool a monocycle would be if it generated the same heavy type of sound that a Harley engine makes? Or if not that, how about the sound of a spinner from Blade Runner? Complete with Vangelis music blaring from the iPod.

I will say though, I'm totally on board for the filmmaking options this Honda contraption could potentially be used for... THE HUMAN DOLLY. But there is no way in hell I will scoot around the mall or grocery store on one of those. Not unless I purposely want to get my ass kicked.

...mustache and bandanna optional.

No way dude. If you're gonna do something, don't half ass it. Mustache and bandanna REQUIRED!!!!

That is insane.

Does this make anyone else think of Wall-E?
:)

Or Baron Harkonnen?
