Hello I was curious as to find out if anyone knew what the material is that kino-flos are mounted too. (the black backing on the light). Im making some homemade kino flos and i need to find out what that material is and if i can find something similar in stregnth and weight so i can use it.

Thanks

That's the hardest part to get/make. I was in the same boat. I hope someone has an answer to your question. I'd like to know too.

It's corrugated plastic. Try an art supply store. It's also not so sturdy and may not survive the test of time.

Right, it is plastic, you can buy it at S&W plastics. It's fairly inexpensive, the sheets are 4'x8'. There may be a store in your area, they are scattered around so cal.
also available in other colors, not just black.

You might find sheets smaller too. At Texas Art Supply I seem to remember they had 3 x 4s which would be just about right for a 4 x 55 or so with some scraps leftover.

One thing kinos do to try to guard against the fragile nature of this material is they have a (i believe leather) edging stitched on there because it's the edges which will be the most fragile and your fixture will fall apart from the outside in basically unless you have something to protect and strengthen the edges. Leather is about all I can think of which will be tough but flexible.
