Homemade Grindhouse Filter

Hey gang, what is a creative way of making a grindhouse looking filter on FCP? One of the guys in the IFC in Kansas City was trying to explain to me how he made his filter, but I forgot. The filter he used in his film looked good!

Used to be you could get some pretty good tips on this board, heck I shoot on a canon and I use the DVX board instead of Canon forums... Is the Kool-Aid guy around anymore, he always has some helpful tips.

Nattress makes some filters that you can tweak for the look you're going for. [G Film Damage]

Thanks Blaine, I was wondering more specifically how to make homemade filter in FCP. One of the the guys in the IFC here in KC said that he creates the whole sequence as one quicktime file (essentially one frame by doing this) and he puts a matte over the entire sequence and inverts it or something like that. It gives it the dirty film look with lines here and there anyone ever tried this or can you explain it better than I have? :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Try some of the filters in QT, there are dust and scratches, lines, color fx built into QT. I would assume applying these to a second instance of your timeline and then comping it with a composite/transfer mode will give you a nice grungy look. I used to do this manually back in the day when "TRAFFIC" came out and a client wanted to emulate the look. Now I just use Magic Bullet Editors or the Nattress Film Effects plugins. They're both cheap. Made a client pay for them 2 Summers ago.
