hi, I am filming some bands in a few weeks and I wanted to achieve an overhead shot,
has anyone experience with bullet cams/lipstick cams? is it feasable to make your own from a cheap security camera/pin hole camera or similar from a place like maplins (electronic shop in uk),
I have dvx100a so assume it would have to have composite connection to go into camera?

what would be the minimum specs I should look for in terms of lines of resolution etc, happy for b/w and some grain is fine as its for a promotional dvd of cover bands and not broadcast.
any tips or ideas wold be fantastic
I am based in uk.
thanks

Likely the only essential aspects of a lipstick cam for use with your DVX would be that it is a PAL format camera (since you are in the UK). All other aspects of the camera's performance (color or B/W, resolution, filed of view, color rendition, etc) can be though of as aesthetic choices.

Good three-chip lipstick/ice cube cameras are like $5,000 USD. Also, the big problem you'd run into is getting a good wide-angle lens for that rig (the CCD is so small, you need a REAL wide lens). You'd be much better off if you can just rig a cheap 3-CCD DV camera somehow.

I concur with NBCshooter. I used inexpensive (~ $300 US) lipstick cams for years for sports events. They are fine for quick and dirty captures but the image never looks great. There's also the problem of not being able to lock the focus or exposure.

With the price of minidv cams these days and the 3 chip versions, that would be the route to go.
