Homemade 35mm lens adapter - will it work

Just wondering, if I take a Nikon N4004(s) and replace the focusing screen with a D-type (no grids or guidelines), and shoot video through the viewfinder, will it be as good as buying a 35mm lens adapter? I already know I can make the mounting work, but are there any flaws? Does anyone know where I can get a D screen that fits the N4004(s)?

Ive tried that with my little HV30, its not worth it.

And im not so sure about the D screen

you'd be better off just making one from scratch. use extension tubes and step rings. you'll have to figure out a way to mount the d-screen and you'll need a lens mount. but to be honest, with the older redrocks so cheap right now, it's totally not worth it. you'll spend more making your own and the image quality won't be as good.
