homebuilt motion control camera

Hi Filmfann222!
Great Work,

And now my Questions. :-)

Which kind of Motor did you used for the System?

Stepper, Servo or Gear Motor with Radencoder?

Maybe i will try to build my own. But in the Moment i will figure out, which parts are the best for this.

And of Course, writting the Controllsoftware is the biggest Challange i think. And this thakes time.

Did your System comes with LDS? (Lens Data System) Differently, can your System Handle Zoom and Iris Controlling?

Thnx Mike

answering some questions

answering some questions

few things.

the motors I use are off the shelf steppers. Nema 23 sized with various speeds.

the control software is the biggest issue. thats where I got stuck. thats when I called Joe Lewis at General Lift in Los Angeles about using a Kuper Industrial card and set of drivers to move this thing. He also provided the head.

I will ask joe how he feels about indie level moco systems and get back to you guys.

what you have seen is just the beginning. please stay tuned in the next few weeks and you will see a ton of stuff coming out about this system and what its used for.

Thats awsome. Back in the day I used to be a robot welder. The job consisted of not only welding, but programing the robot. I've been thinking of getting my hands on that software to do the same kind of thing. The software can control up to 30 motors at once, and then when everything is set the over all speed can be adjusted as well. The robots were ABB.

Here is the model robots I used to program

How much are those guys?

I wonder how much even for a used one?

You should develop this further. Motion control is still out of the reach of the Indie world.

I am not so sure that this is true when using prosumer cameras like the HVX. You can put together a pretty good system with off the shelf parts. Companies like ServoCity have pretty much everything you need to knock something together including basic software.

film fan are you ever going to return to the forum? Id like to know what servo controler you're using? in you're demo you only have one servo moving at a time, are you using the servocity 8 servo stepper? or are you using a controler that can handel more but you chose to just use one at a time to show what your servos can do?

I would be thankful for a replay.

btw the clip of you building your unit on your website is helpful.

Wow, this is just what I am looking for, a small rig to hold an animation camera. But the video is gone :-( Anyone have any more info on this?

idragosani, it isn't as easy as t looks, trust me, I built one and used it on a film yesterday it worked well, but builing it, and fixing problems with it untill it works right is a long drown out bit of work.

look up my motion control thread I have some clips and test shots on youtube
