Homebuilt jib - comments are welcome

English instructions would be excellent! I've been going over your instructions but the translation is killing me. I'll be waiting most patiently for some English instructions.

I'm danish (no it's not just something you eat) just like Jacob who made the jib and I've translated the page into english for you and put it on my site: http://www.lorentzen.com/jib.htm

Note for Jacob in danish: Tag bare html-siden og smid den på dit eget site hvis du vil :-)

Happy jig-building everybody - and thanks for sharing, Jacob!

Thanks Tony for the translation. And Jacob, great looking Jib and especially the demo footage. I showed my wife the clip and she was more interested in the place where you shot it. Nothing around here looks anything like that.

Thanks for sharing,
James

Surely Denmark is a nice place - primarily during the summer ;-) Right now we're getting a good load of snow outside... brr...

Incredible! I am so glad someone posted English instructions. I'll definitely be working on one of these in the spring.

Only $135? Amazing! Excellent work.

Would it be feasible to extend the reach beyond 5m (say, 6), or would I be compromising integrity? And, what tripod are you using?

P.S. The Spring? How can you wait that long? Hehe

Sean,
I don't think it is possible to make the jib much longer, when using downpipe. It might be dangerous, I think... you also have to consider the strength of the tripod.

Tony,
Mange tak for oversættelsen! Jeg har lagt den på http://jacobwaage.dk/jib/ som den primære side, og oprettet et link til den danske version.

Thank you all for your nice words about the jib.

Jacob

Hi Jacob.

Awesome footage. Now I'm totally motivated to make one.

Two questions:

1) That "2 pcs. of 3 meter long metal downpipe"; That's the stuff that comes down from the aluminum gutters, right? It's made of aluminum, right? If it is, then how can it hold such a heavy load without bending? That stuff bends so easy! How does it support the weight of the jib+camera?

2) Do you have a more detailed description of the parts ie) size. thickness, of plates, nuts, bolts, etc. and the procedure for assembly? Anything you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Regards,
