I like my cameras to be as lightweight and balanced as possible. Though the Red Cradle is a nice option to mount a battery, it makes things difficult (and heavy + bulky)

After looking for a solution, I decided to design and make one my self (with the help of a friends shop)

I like this battery mount so much better because now you don't have to take accessories off the camera every time It is put away, The battery now slides on from the rear, and it is extremely light weight and well balanced. Not to mention it is now easy to access the rear panel of the camera!

Mm nice, wish we had this when I flew a red on my steadicam rig, the battery hanging out the back made it a pig to maneuver around, it kept hitting things...

Now if you could work a cup holder into it, it would be perfect :shocked:
 
Thats funny you mention the cup holder idea, I am thinking about making a custom coffee mug holder mount (with warmer from USB power) That way you can always drink hot coffee while your shooting. (It could also help balance things out on your stedicam)
 
Mm i think any kind of liquid ballast on a steadicam would be a bad idea. how would you do the drop test?! you would get your shoes all wet...
 
And if you drank any of the coffee, then your steadicam would be unbalanced, so maybe you need to need an automatic coffee maker to keep it nice and balenced.. hehe

Nice job with this, nice rig as well btw. I think you should start selling this!!
 
I am getting inquiries about selling them over at reduser.net, If I can get enough people who want one, I can justify making a small production run of them at a shop.

I wish I was in need of one of these (I dont have a red!!). I just think it looks like a good idea.
