Home made CitiDISK DV or Quickstream DV?

I was looking at these things and the Sony Giga Vault.

They seem like a great idea/approach, yet they're extremely expensive for the high sized HDD.

If you don't know what I'm talking about - look here, and you'll see what I mean

I was wondering if anyone knew if things like Archos Multimedia Jukebox (it has MC36 connector) could handle recording video like this if we wrote software to it..

Maybe this isn't the forum to be asking in.. hopefully I'll find some geeklets. 8)

theoretically, if the device has enough bandwidth it can be used to capture. Someone was producing software/firmware for the ipod that you could make do this, but I havnt heard anything about it for almost a year.

See, if someone found out if the JBMM could do this, I already know how to take that thing apart and slap in a 60-80 gb drive.

Now if someone found a DV box like that which takes 3.5 drives.. well.. then we'd be in business at something close to what - 250 gb of PORTABLE space? thats ridiculously awesome. If they say a 20 GB drive is 1.5 hours - then I'm saying that a 250 gb drive is about 18.75 hours of footage. Assuming you plug the system into a wall - that thing could probably do a ridiculous time lapse capture.

has anyone tested the IPOD performance? I mean can you get the 3.5MB/sec you need for DV stream? If that's not even possible, I do'nt see how that can work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you connect your DVX onto an iBook/PowerBook via FireWire, open FCP or iMovie and start capturing, doesn't it work just as well ?

I do'nt see why not.. but compare the notebook's size+heft to that of the ipod.
