Any suggestions on what I could buy at the store so I can do moving shots? The cheaper the better.

What type of moving shots do you mean? Dolly? Pan? Tilt? etc.

...oh woops you probably mean dolly. I don't know, but I would start with a search of "DIY Dolly"

I would like to be able to move the camera forward, back side to side but on wheels so I can get those smooth shots you see in feature films so often. "Not" stationary pans using a tripod.


Also I don't want to use rails.

The cheapest route is tape your camera onto a wheel chair.

Made a replica of the one posted in the link. Piece of cake (with the assist and support from my gf ). It became really smooth. Here you'll find a short testclip (though Tinypic persists with compressing 16:9 to 4:3):
