Intresting how closer the the real cinema look you can get at home these days.

I use a panasonic PTAE900 projector with the samsung hd850 dvd.

And when the DVD takes the 720*576 and scales to 1280*720 the look will be so close to a 35mm print ive seen in avarage cinema. Of course it must be a good mastered dvd.

was wathing the Bruce Willis movie hostage a while ago and it show all the characteristics of 35mm. Soft edges but still detailed.

Has any one else experienced the same thing with your own home cinemas?

you won't ever get the same experience... as godard said once, in a theater there's plenty of people and the faces on the screen are big!
movieswede... you can reach the same image quality (even better) but is still u and your projector,plasma,lcd...

speaking of cinema look, I have a 40" Samsung 1080i lcd, bose acusticmass 10, yamaha rx v596 amply, panny dmr es10 dvdrec, lg dv9900h hdmi dvd, sony ns955 dvd & a pace skybox hd (sat reciever) + a dual p4 3ghz plugged via component to the lcd. the audio sistem rocks, with dvds I get the best quality with the sony dvd player (component) but it's far away from filmic... the best solution (today) to recreate the film effect is to watch them with a sat reciever (sky hd uk,ita, premiere hd... in europe) or hd cable (hbo).

How much did you pay for yours?

Well its was in sweden so I had the 25% VAT :(

But it could have been about 2000$

And Vincent

Yes a HD encoded movie will bring me closer, but i still think that a projector with a big white screen will help bring the cinema experience better than a flatscreen. And the uprez to 720P that the HD850 does do alot to it.

Of course i dont have all those people talking in a cell phone but i can live without them. ;)

And I dont have to experience the situation again when I watched Air Force One with my brother. I got the best ticket in the entire theater in the best theater in town. My brother thought that it would be a good idea that he drank some beers before. Of course that payd of in about an half over before the movie ends that he must go and take a leak. He tries to hold himself but about 5 minutes before the climax he cant hold and must get out. And we really sists right in the mittle when he gets up and starts walking on peoples toes. Myself just sink down in my seat and pretend that I dont know him.

Hey MovieSwede, I have the same projector, that thing rocks with movies and HDTV. Cinemascope rocks as well, as I have set up my screen to be native cinemascope therefore I have a 110" diagnal cinemascope image, COOL. I don't know if panasonic is still offering it, but I paid $1995, and got a $400 rebate, plus a $300 gift card to blockbuster, can't really beat that deal :)
