Does anyone know where to get sound effects like the ones found in movie trailers, particularly horrors or thrillers. in particular im looking for the very bassy sounds that kins of start off strong and just rumble in the background. I hope im explaining this good enough. if you watch this trailer you'll get what im talking about if you dont already. any help would be appreciated.

Where do the Hollywood trailer-making companies get these sounds? Why don't you call them up and ask them? I'd like to know too, actually. They could make them themselves...

I do 'em all day long. You can PM me or:

Lexicon 480L, Blow into mic. Record reverb only of breath. Filter top.

Blow again, record reverb only. Filter bottom.

Layer those samples into sampler. I use Giga Studio for this. Play different notes.

Doppler reverb'd samples. Play dopplered reverb samples an octave or so lower.

Piezo mics on wood, wall, panel, stage floor. Scrape. More Lexicon 480L

I work at a commercial post house. I guess I could ask one of the sound mixers. If any are in house tomorrow and have some free time, I'll try and get an answer for you.

Ummm... my question to you is.... what exactly are going to ask them again?

Ok, thanks to everyone for their help. My question has basically been answered seeing it isnt something thats available for purchase or you guys would have it or know where to get it. if anyone does find out be sure to let matthew bennett know as he is just as interested as well.

i cut studio trailers (amongst other things) for a living. a good place to start is the 5-disc 'sound designers toolkit' collection... every trailer house has a copy...

silicon soudns like a fooley man! :D good good....

I own and operate a reasonably impressive (IMNTBHO) post facility in the SF Bay Area. We do digital Foley, actual Foley, full custom composition/orchestra mock-up, SFX, dialog, ADR, sound design, and location capture.

BTW, Zak is right, the Hollywood Edge series is a great place to start. Back in the day (circa 1990's for me), when I did sound design for EMU Systems (the Emulator II guys) we designed some of the stuff in that series. It's a HUGE library now!

The best one IMHO is the Soundelux sound library, but costs as much as a house.
