Does anyone have these? Do you like them? Do you feel you learned from them?

Im thinking about getting them for myself...might as well with xmas and all around the corner..

Thoughts appreciated

I'm watching them now. Funny, the info seems like "d'uh" material but then again, it is so useful to actually hear it. Plus, I am sure that I will sound better educated on the set when I discuss camera set-ups. I imagine what I am learning from them is taught in film school, but since I didn't attend.... I am finding them informative.

So, if you have the money to spend or don't have "bigger" xmas items on the list, I'd say 'go for it.' I am learning from them.

There you go..... Charli has spoken! Get it!

They are well done with 3d models and all. It covers so many rules and basics to directing.

Like I said, I am learning from them.

I got a set. They're pretty sweet. Now if I can explain to the grizzly bear why he needs to be standing over here so I can get this angle I saw on the DVD I'll be all set. :)

You need to watch them a few times and really let it soak in.

Someone on here said they like to watch them on long plane flights.

HAHAHAHA!!! That's great, Kevin. I am sure that those Grizzlies are a bear to work with! (oh, Ted... what a new low.) (I actually didn't mean to type a pun, but WTH!)

ok...sounds good. I *think* I know a lot about directing/blocking etc....but Im completely open and willing to learn more!

I watched some of the demo cllips and was thinking man this is all basic stuff...but then again, Im sure the demos are the easy basic stuff....

s4manturbo, how much experience do you have at blocking? Film blocking?

Just curious, because these are a pricey set and would hate to advise you to purchase if you know all of this.

I've directed theatre all of my life and film is obviously a different creature. I am gaining a lot from these but as I stated earlier, the info seems like "d'uh" material for me. But it covers a lot... and I am only on the first disk!

I will cont. to watch and update as I go along.

Good luck!

Hey Haakon,

First of all... I like your avatar and your plate!

Secondly, are you trying to educate the users on these boards!!!

Good luck! Good idea! I may start to carry a spelling bee on my sig., too!

Great stuff!

I think the DVD set is great. The CGI can make it feel a little slow at times, but the info is all there. Watching the DVD's has made a big difference for me when it comes time to start story boarding or working on shot concepts. I've seen a few used sets on ebay, so you might want to check there. Yes, some of the info is basic, but I think that is just because they cover everything.

I'm pretty sure you can get a DVXuser discount. If not, you can receive 30% off by entering the code provided at the bottom of this page of my website (yes, it is legit).

I can see you out there filming wildlife with a dolly and a crane...

Wouldn't be the first time I filmed wildlife with a dolly and a crane.

Took both to Glacier N.P. a few years back and got some killer footage.

Ted

Well I have been working in production for 7 years, and have been doing theater at nights for the past 5 years. I basically block things at least once a week, since we shuffle the positions.

During film blocking, I am more pratical driven, because of limitations and such. Studio shooting allows you to move a wall or shoot from this angle etc. where as shooting say in a NYC on location bathroom which are normally tiny, I work with what I am given.

Either way, Im going to pull the trigger and get a set. I love having a different perspective on things or learning anything in terms of film work so.....might as well. I can always sell em if I get bored of them...

Kevin - tell the bear to come at you like before, the same, but different. See if he takes
direction, if not, run like Hades.

I try, but judging by most of the posts I read, I don't think it does much good. :-P

Yeah... something like...

OK, you're very angry. Someone has tried to play with your cubs and you're having none of it. But you know that there's someone with a gun nearby, so you're very cautious... now try that...
