Holiday Pictures With Cool X-Ray Camera! (Smile- It's My Broken Collar Bone!)

OK, so the camera was at the ER, and I had to break my collarbone mountain biking before they'd take my picture, but I think the format has promise... 3D has nothing on this!!!

The highlighted jagged spear point looking thing is my clavicle, with a fragment below.

Had to walk/ride trails out yesterday with one hand for 15 minutes, then bike the road for another 10 minutes to get back to my car at the trailhead.
Then once out of the ER, a 5 hour drive home, arm in a sling...

See an orthopedist later in the week, possibly surgery, definitely more editing, less shooting the next 6 weeks.

But Happy New Year everybody, I'll be sticking around the house for this one... sigh...

I thought this was going to be about x-ray vision...

Yikes! Hope you heal quick.

In all seriousness, I broke my collarbone just like that when I was 15. I opted to NOT get surgery. The bone pieces didn't reset properly and my left arm is short than my right. Obviously I'm not telling you what to do...just my story.

EEEEEEE yikes!

All I could think of was an adaptation of the Excedrin commercials: "I have a broken collarbone, and it has morphine written all over it"

Thanks Mike- yeah, that is a possible consequence of no surgery- do you have any lingering discomfort?
And I heard the clavicle doesn't harden til age 20, most breaks are in those younger than 20.

Doc- no excedrin or morphine, just a little percocet.

I have a shoot tomorrow- a friend will set up, I'll dial in the AF100, should be interesting (as is typing with 2 fingers on one hand)...

Saw the orthopedist today. New X-rays showed the bones and pieces moving further apart.
He said "You need surgery."
Looking at my editing schedule, I said "Monday?"
He said "Tomorrow."
So tomorrow, I get a plate and some screws to hold the 3 or 4 pieces of my collarbone together. Sigh...

See you all post-op in the Recovery Room (it's just off of the Cafe...)

Now count backwards from 10, 9, 8, 7................................................................................................................................

Oh Man... get it done & heal fast... I feel for ya'.
(I'll say a little 'heal' prayer for you tonight!)

Thanks Joe! I asked about getting a Zaza slider implant on my collarbone, but the doc said it wasn't covered under my plan...
Then I thought maybe a little quick release plate action??? But it's the left shoulder, not my shooting shoulder.

And since I can't eat after midnight and it's a 11am surgery, I'm finishing off some lasagna and carrot cake... mmm...
Feels a little like the condemned prisoner's last meal...

So after a 2 hour surgery Thursday (and home 3 hours later), I now have a 2.5 inch titanium plate and several screws on my collarbone holding 3 pieces together- not exactly The Bionic Man, but then I can probably come up with a better theme song for myself while I'm at it... even start a band called The Clavicles?

And (allegedly) TSA will have no problems with it.
