Hobo Doc - "National Hobo Convention"

For those of you that don't know, my edtor friend and i have been living in a 1973 Winnebago RV on the streets of Los Angeles since January 2006. We've taken on the titles of "hoboes" and been video documenting our little place in today's society (see www.thehobosoul.com).

Anyway, point is... On August 9-12, in the town of Britt, Iowa, the "National Hobo Convention" is held every year. Thousands of past and modern hoboes gather for a long weekend of -- whatever it is they do. Jeff and I are planning on attending this year. We're planning of flying into DesMoines, Iowa and then actually "riding the rails" (train-hopping) to Britt.

Here are my questions:
1. Anbody know sources of funding for something like this? It should be educational and entertaining.
2. We will be looking for a cameraman and mixer who are willing to jump onto moving trains -- maybe someone in Iowa.
3. Anybody ever heard of/possibly been to the "Hobo Convention" or having any resources???

Thank you to all. Sorry so long.

Here's our doc site:

I've been there a few times. Not as great as it was in years past.

The old timers are fading away. I wouldn't say there are "thousands" of hobo's there. Unless you think like St. Patricks Day and everyone's Irish for the day.

Sparky Smith was one of my favorite Hobo Kings.

what's funny is the more i research the Hobo Convention, the more i feel i'll be disappointed. but we're actually using that (possible) fact as part of our doc; is/was the hobo a noble character? or is he just a drunkard and a social-security schemer?

You did and I just e-mailed you back. I blame the confusion on having e-mail, DVXuser and, now, MySpace addresses for you guys.

You hobos are all over the place!

Fight the good fight.... Hobos unite!
