HMI / HID Lighting?

Good!

I think you are oversimplifying your description of CMH and HMI/MSR a little, but you are generally right of course. It's all one family. But these bulbs are a bit more complicated than a filament type bulb. It was not-for-nothing that OSRAM developed the HMI bulbs specifically for film/TV.
So giving the option of putting a quality bulb such as an MSR in your fixtures and run it off your ballasts will see many more sales for you, I'd suspect, and would be big plus.

What's the voltage, by the way? 95/100 for the two sizes, respectively?

Haha. It may have been Osram that developed the HMI for film/tv but who was the original developer of metal halide? GE. And who had the first ceramic metal halide? Thorn Lighting of England. Osram found a way, one year later to make it more commercial, first with "HQI" later with HMI. Here's a link for light history enthusiasts:

From what I've seen its ballast supplied 95v for the 575w ones and 100v for the 1200w ones. Is that what you're asking?

Yep, that's good. That's MSR's specs too.

Any chance you can increase the socket size to G22 for 575W and G38 for 1200W size?
G12 seems awfully small for 575W, and is normally used for smaller bulbs (150W).

Sorry for the confusion. Yes its QR-G22 for 575 and 1200 (and the double ended designs available too for both). G38 is for hot restrike 2000w and above. The G12 we have now is for the 150w par we have in operation in the pictures on this thread. Haven't seen a G38 config lamp yet but we weren't looking at anything bigger than a 1200w for now. Also saw a GX9.5 for the 575w.

I hate to make anything bigger than 1200w (at least in the beginning). Our market is running these things off household current. When you get much bigger then people need special circuits and all that or you're constrained to it being a totally pro/studio solution.

We have our development and manufacturing operations here in China. Distribution is out of two warehouses in the USA.

Hey when are you going to make a PC version? We need some more choices instead of DVRack.

Hey Richard,

You now have a choice to not use DV Rack... Step into the light :)

The whole reason we created our App was Serious Magic would not do a Mac version, so we took it upon ourselves to fill this void.

I am not to keen to go toe to toe with Adobe or Apple for that matter.

A Macbook Pro, our HD software, an HVX200 and your lights will be serious production value for very little cost!

Now if only Apple would open itune sales to indie film makers......

Oh,

Will you all be at NAB? We will. Please stop by and say hi. I look forward to checking your products out if you are showing at NAB.

Visit us at NAB 2007. We will be showing our new HD product in the Dykortech booth - C7832

See DV Monitor Pro and HD Monitor Pro in action on the Advanta-Jib with an HVX200 and DVX Buddy controller.

Maybe NAB next year. I went last year to celebrate the release of my video but this year I'm in China for a bit now finishing up our next products. Hope we'll be there showing all the stuff off in 2008. We'll see what new stuff you have then too. Should be an interesting year.

Glad to hear there's a choice I really didn't want to use DV Rack. I use the Newtek Video Toaster for recording and edit with Vegas when i'm back in the states but when I'm here in China I need a more portable solution for my laptop and was thinking about DVRack but don't like Adobe too much and the price is getting pretty high too. Last time I ran into your site it just said for Mac only.

Why not? It's fun poking holes in these big companies strategies. Look how long these lighting companies have been charging outrageous prices.
