HMD as a field monitor?

I was wondering what anyones opinions were on the possible use of monocular HMD's(Head Mounted Display) as field monitors. I'm not sure if the difference in images between the two eyes would be to confusing, or a boon to the operator who can function this way. Their are a number of companies starting to develop 720p HMD's, so focus and framing would be possible.

I've thought about the same thing before, but was never brave enough to buy a set to try it out since there aren't any stores around that display them. Also, there wasn't HD capable one's when I was looking.

I think it sounds like a viable idea even it was just to be used as a director's monitor so he or she can focus on the shot.

Best,

Well It's been some time since I posted this, and in the mean time I've purchased a Steadicam SK2 for my HVX-200, and replaced the bottom stage to enable Dynamic balance...due to the change and the inferiority of the SK2's display I was in the market for a display.

My choices were slim, as I currently can't afford a good display, so everything came back to the HMD known as the Myvu Solo Universal Edition.

I was able to find these for $100 USD on Ebay, although I did still need to purchase a wireless transmitter/receiver so that I wasn't tethered to the camera during Steadicam use, but luckily that was another Ebay find for $37...it is a bit of a low-end Tx/Rx, but I figure at a distance of 6 feet at most it should be able to handle the job.

I'll post my thoughts on the Myvu when I receive it and use it, although I have heard from a couple users on this forum that the myvu works well for an external display.

Well I'm happy to say my Myvu glasses arrived, and although I haven't field tested them yet, in my rough beginning looks at the product it appeared to definitely be a good solution for monitoring footage...it's cheap, doesn't suffer from glare since it's so near the face, allows one to see above, below, and a little to the sides of the screen so with a Stabilizer you can navigate with proper knowledge of terrain....looks good
