HMC40 price update $1,995!

Gah - how does this thing stack up against the GH1 for video? I guess you'd be back in typical video DOF territory, but with a more robust codec etc. Right? Apologies, this camera wasn't on my radar at all.

That price is for real. I was pretty shocked since it was in the $3K range at NAB.
I was shocked when I saw the initial $3.2K price tag. I am glad Panasonic got real. At $2K they will sell tons of these to kids on skateboards.

That's a B&H camcorder "kit"--it has the HMC40 plus a bunch of accessories bundled by B&H. If you follow the links above, you'll see that the actual camcorder is still $1995.

I played around with one of these the other day and I think it is a great little camera for a lot different scenarios. I heard CNN order a bunch of them to use as "throw down" cameras. Glad to see the price is going to be so reasonable.

Re: Ag-hmc40

were also taking pre-orders for folks in Texas!

one of the ways they got the price down was to remove the XLR attachment from the cam. It comes with a top handle only in the base model. you can add the 2ch XLR adapter with 48K for under $300.

the price is great, but i'll wait to see how bad the rolling shutter is. I have a feeling 1080/24p will not be one of it's strong points. Hope I'm wrong though.
