Not as quick is to use the Device Explorer in Vegas to "capture" the clips from the card. There are two reasons why I prefer to use DE when I have the time:

1. The HMC150 cards are Fat32 and don't support files larger than 4GB. So if you have a single shot that runs longer than about 22 minutes (PH mode) then it will be split into multiple files. DE automatically stiches these together when "capturing".

2. If you are shooting more than one card and just copy the files from the cards to your PC, you will have duplicate clip names from each card. Although you can just put them in separate folders on your PC, the duplicate names become a problem if you are putting them onto the Vegas timeline. You then have to either rename the clips to give them unique names, or possibly use nested Vegs to separate duplicate names. Device Explorer gives every clip across all SD cards a unique name so no problem with duplicates.

2) Well, not really. Duplicate clip names are fine as long as they're not in the same folder (which they couldn't be anyway). You can even bring in the SAME clip from two different folders and Vegas will treat it as two separate clips.

I just went back and tried this - I thought I remembered having problems with this when I had a shoot with duplicate file names. You are correct David - thanks for catching this. For me, I would still prefer to have the unique names that Device Explorer provides as it cuts down the confusion going between the timeline, the Project Media list, and Media Manager.

+1 on capturing... unique file names are essential over long term use and big projects.

Also its a pain in the butt to exactly match up clips over 4gb in the timeline manually. If you put them back to back there is a skip in the video.

There shouldn't be a skip in the video if you're putting them into a timeline which matches the frame rate of the video.

But I agree that unique filenames are better.
