I was wondering, since the HMC-150 used compressed AVCHD, if there is any real reason to transcode to regular 422. I was thinking that LT or Proxy should be just fine.
According to Final Cut Pro Power Skills by Larry Jordan, LT displays visible differences "rarely" whereas 422 displays visible differences "Very Rarely". Quality rating for 422 is 'high' whereas for LT is "good". It comes down to your end product. How big a screen? Try inputting the same clip as both types and then blowing it up on your large screen monitor (mines 40"). It's very clear from this kind of test what you need to do.
Yeah I find LT and Proxy to be usable for Proxy cutting- I would not want to use them for my finishing quality unless it was an internal teaching project that was not intended for broadcast or public view. Solid codecs but not as good as can be.
