Hit and Run

So just a few miles from where I live, at a small intersection I drive by everyday on my way to the radio station, a 5 year old girl was hit by a car the other day. The driver of the vehicle (a light blue, or sky blue Ford Expedition, with Alabama "Helping Schools" tag) stopped for a second and then made an abrupt turn, and took off. No one got his tag number. The girl was sent to the local hospital and subsequently airlifted to the childrens hospital in Birmingham (about 2 and a half hours from here). She remains in critical condition in the ICU. The police have no suspects. Only the description that I listed above.
Now... having a new daughter (5 months old today :) ) that is the kind of **** that makes me want to hunt someone down and not turn them in, not kill them, but lock them in a room and torture them for about 3 days solid, and then let them decide what they want me to do with them next. Phew. I'm done. Anyone noticed, that once you have kids, it doesn't matter if you are in a wheel chair or the toughest fool on the block, your animal instinct just seems quick to come out when it comes to any perceived threat against ones family.
Ok. Now I am done.

How terrible.

I'd imagine there aren't that many light blue Expeditions with "helping schools" tags in the entire state. Hopefully the DMV database is up to the task of identifying those vehicles and sending out the police to investigate.

Hopefully the guy just didn't want to face the parents and will turn himself in, but it doesn't sound like it. Don't have kids, but any time I hear about adults harming children it makes my blood boil.

MILWAUKEE — An 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by as many as 20 boys as a 16-year-old girl watched and told her what sex acts to perform, authorities say in the latest mob attack to rock Milwaukee and set off another round of civic soul-searching.
"It almost leaves me speechless. It is just senseless acts of violence. It is inhumane. It is embarrassing to the city of Milwaukee and its people. ... There should be outrage," Barbara Nuell-Moore, director of the neighborhood-improvement group Project Respect.
The 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy have been charged in juvenile court in the attack, which took place on Monday in a house on the city's north side. A 40-year-old man who also had sex with the child may also be charged, authorities said.
As for the others, "we're dealing with a lot of nicknames so we're trying to track down these people," said prosecutor Matthew Torbeson.

Numerous violent crimes have shocked the city this summer, starting with a Memorial Day weekend in which 28 people were shot. Homicides overall are down this year, but two other categories of violent crime are up from 2005 — assaults by 22 percent and robberies by 36 percent, Police Chief Nan Hegerty told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Both stories very SAD and SICK. These are the people I have no sympathy for... I hope they rot in hell.
