Hip Hop videos...

Since I do a lot of work with rap and R&B singers I would like to know if anyone on here has shot any hip hop videos with their DVX100. I keep seeing videos of bands being posted.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

My server was down a lil. Should work.

PS...yeah it was kind of a joke, but there is a hip hop video there

Re: Hip Hop videos...

TRUELY FUNNY AS HELL! Thanks for making a hilarious Hip Hop video...wait a second...arent they all? Im saving this one.

You guys know what Im talking about when it comes to the MTV hip hop videos. I can almost picture the directors of all thoughs videos on set with note book with a list of things they need to have in their video. The checklist would go alittle something like this:

1)Last video had 24 inch rims. I need to have 26 inch rims.
2)BIG bottie shaking chicks (this is fine)
3)Showing off the Bling Bling
4)Wide angle lens
5)Low angle looking up at "talent" (inferior complex)
6)Soft frontal lighting (ie. ring light)
7)Tight shutter angle
8)Bright/over saturated colors

Know your 4 B'S of Hip Hop Videos:
Bling Bling, Bitches and Big Egos

Thanks ExFilms for breaking the mold.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

like I said...some people have jokes...can I say STEREOTYPES....Not all videos have to be about bling bling and women and rims. Thats usually what the Director and/or Artist wants. Even though I shoot a lot of Hip Hop oriented projects, I also do equal amount of Rock stuff as well. I am just trying to make money in the end regardless what the music genre is.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

That **** was corny.  DVXShooter I begin shooting a video for an artist on Sunday.  I produced/mixed/mastered his album as well so its nice to carry through my complete vision to the video and collect a damn good fee as well.  Kudos to Brett for his keen insight into hip hop culture & music, hey go film a wedding or maybe capture the slow decay of a melting snowcap in your back yard, cornball.  Oh yeah DVXshooter, I think your around my way...Philly right? I'm in Wilmington Tellaware.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

Wilmington huh? Yea thats right up the road. I am in D-ware as well...I just work in Philly. Did you shoot your video in Wilmington?

Exfilms, where did you find that video? That mess was crazy! It was corny but I give them props for their concept! I don't knock anyone thats out there trying to make moves. However, you won't find me in bed with no grandmom though! LOL!

Re: Hip Hop videos...

The White Hurr video was a super low budget ExFilms production. We polished it a little more and the finished version is going out this week. The comedian is Eric Schwartz (aka Smooth-E) and his website is:

http://www.suburbanhomeboy.com

I feel guilty posting it because it wasn't shot on a dvx100, I just threw up the link cause I thought it was funny.

Cinebuddy...I know you're not dissing wedding videographers! I've shot concert and/or interviews with 50 Cent, Too $hort, Fabolous, Kid Capri, Ja Rule, Busta Spliff & Scratch, Master P, The Roots, ?uestlove, etc. I also film weddings. So am I not cool enough to hang out with you? :P

Re: Hip Hop videos...

Ex you sound like me, I have done work with Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Blackstreet, Levi Little, Kid Capri on the Def Comedy Jam tour, and a bunch of others that makes up one of my entertainment demo reels.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

I said what I had to say playboy. My comment was to the superior tone from Mr. Brett. Take it how you want to take it. But to liken that parody to an entire genre of music an film is bull.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

I agree with the take on a stereotypes in Rap Music Videos.  A generalization of course.  Personally, I don't dig Rap nor the Music Videos because most of them are nothing but bling, cribs, ass and cars.  They tend to lack any substance and really have nothing to offer.

Technically speaking, I have seen some nice work in that musical genre.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

Its funny i'm sure a lot of cats who make rap videos don't dig the music...but sure as hell collect a check from it. I don't dig rock its just teen angst, depression, long hair and dolly shots....WTF?

Re: Hip Hop videos...

Whoah I really didnt want to start something here. I was just making a GENERAL (not always the case) observation that I find kind of funny. How about we bring this thread back on target:

ExFilms-
Loved your video. Do you have a site or at least a link to more of your work? What did you do on this project? What have you done with it?

Re: Hip Hop videos...

Brett you just like to start trouble dont you heh heh. :)

Re: Hip Hop videos...

I don't think its something in the air. I knew it would cause controversy when I first posted something about Hip Hop Videos. I understand that alot of people don't like the music nor the videos. The way I look at it, is somebody is getting their work played on National TV in heavy rotation at that. I honestly don't have a problem watching females shaking their behinds in the videos...You see the same thing if you go to a nightclub or a party.

My original post was meant to see if anyone has shot any Hip Hop Videos with their DVX100 but I see no one has by all the negative comments about rap music... I can think of several videos that were done creatively without the bling, cribs, cars and women. 1. Outkast "Hey Ya" which just won best Hip Hop Video. and Pharcyde I forget the name of the song but the whole thing was shot in reverse sort like that Beyonce video that is airing now.

I didn't want this to be a dispute....was just trying to see who has done some rap videos. Speaking of which, you all should check out Video Director Paul Hunter's website. He directed a lot of the Nike Commercials as well as Hip Hop videos and he has his work on there for you to view. He did not use the DVX100 though.

Re: Hip Hop videos...

DVX100Shooter

No dispute here. 99% of the Rap Music I hear or Music Videos I see I just don't like. Has nothing to do with any matter of controversy or dispute. I can say the same thing about Country Music.

Technically speaking (as I stated above) I've seen some nice work in the genre.
