Highschool Film Class equipment

hey guys, quick question...

working at a highschool here, (i do their network stuff) and they're starting a video class. The guy in charge wants to buy 3 cameras- he was going to run to best buy and buy some, but I told him I'd look and see if he can get some professional used cameras- doesn't matter how old- as long as they're better then consumer. any ideas guys? or is anyone trying to get rid of some? thx ahead

it would help us to know how much he's willing to spend...i'm guessing since it's for a highschool then they don't have that much money.

i'd start them off with some sony pd170s. those are very good cameras to start on. it's what i used in high school and was impressed. suggest it to them and i know there are a bunch of places (camera stores, online stores) that are selling them.

great suggestion justin,
go with something that is at least a 3ccd camera, and you can manually adjust things like focus, white balance, etc.
Heck, go for a couple of canon gl1s over anything you find at best buy.

I wouldn't go below the VX2000. PD170s would be great. I agree that if this is really going to be a film class then the kids need to know how to be a DP. Can't be a DP if the camera's gonna do all the work for you.

BUT - if he's on a REALLY tight budget and can only spend about 1500 or so for all three I'd get those panisonic GS doodads. Those you can get at BestBuy.
