Highest quality setting for a 5-min DVD?

I have a 5-minute DVD I want to burn at the highest possible quality. I’m afraid if I go above a bit rate of 7.5, I risk not being able to play it, but below that I feel I am not making good use of all that empty space. What else can I do besides setting the bit rate to 7.5 to maximize the quality of a short 5-minute standard-def DVD?

DVD Studio Pro and a Mac.

encode it as a 2-pass variable bit rate file, average bitrate your choice, 7.5 is o.k., with peaks limited to maybe 8.8, and it should play with no problems... i've sold thousands of dvds that were encoded like that, albeit on a pc, tho, not a mac.

you can go over to videohelp.com, and check out their bitrate calculator, it'll tell you what the max limit is, which is of course affected by your audio bitrate... you are using dolby digital, of course? that will save a lot of overall bitrate.
