if i do enter in umm should i get people to help me cuz i don't want to do it alone because i have no idea what i'm doing except press the record button and pointing the camera (also learning the special effects)
should i get a team together? what do you think???
you can get lots of onlin help
As Brandon says there aqre a lot of members in your area, but real life collaboration will be a balance of your comaparitive experience levels vs. the time commitment.

If you were here I would help you for a couple of days if I was available.

You might also trade time on someone else's project, or maybe in lieu of doing your own project this time, volunteer on some of the many projects around your area.

But do both if you can. If you hold a boom mic for someone maybe they will bring their dvx and shoot for you if the time commitment is right.

Goodluck.

like you said brandon:

I live about an hour away from NYC maybe i can take a train and get together with some people! Let me know!

Jack's a good guy to talk to, one of the most talented filmmakers I know! He's pretty close to ya too... I agree with everything he said...

Aria! You're literally a train ride from where Jack is! Shoot your flick in NYC and learn from the man, Jack Stanley!

You'll learn a lot on how a movie is made just be holding a boom mic or you might fall asleep in a corner like my friend did (if that happens you shouldn't get into the movie making business:) ) and like Jack said, if you help people, people will help you.

If you do enter dramafest, you'll learn a lot and get a lot of advice and get a lot of honest opinions that will push you to become better (that is why we are doing it).

What ever you do, just do it. Go shoot a stop motion movie, or some trees blowing in the wind and edit it to music. Something. Being driven is the hardest part.

thanks for the advice!
let's say i did just that: filming the trees and having music in the background...how would i put music in the background??

Do you or can you use a video editing program on a computer? Like say, windows movie maker?

It will help you in the long run, if you learn how to edit. If nothing else, you'll learn how to shoot for the edit, making your footage more useable. If you have a newer version of Windows, it has Movie Maker. Find some online tutorials, get Videomaker magazine, and practice.

Heh Heh Heh...This is an amusing thread...

Welcome to the world of film, mate. I echo the advice on finding a mentor and following him around. Stalk Jack Daniel for a few days or something...you'll learn all his tricks :D

I travelled around with Jack Daniel for a while, and I almost ended up in jail! Fortunately, all I got was really bad hangovers ;)
