Hey God! Can you dim the sun a little?

Me and God are not on speaking terms right now, due to the fact that he won't dim the sun until around 5 - 6 o clock here. I mean, I know he loves me and I love him too, but I just wish he would do something besides blaming it on anti-global warming dudes.

Simple question. Usually in my outdoor shots around 1 - 4 o'clock everything gets overexposed and it looks ugly. Is there anything I can do to get CLEAN looking images outside? Not too overexposed.

I recently interned at a professional film shoot here and they used this hugeee white sheet that they held up with some stands which worked out well, however, I'm sure that will empty my pockets.

Any quicker/cheaper solutions?

I am assuming you have your ND filters engaged and your iris closed down.

If you are talking about dealing with the extreme contrast that comes with shooting in the middle of the day (some of the most unflattering lighting) I find the best cheapest solution is white foam core bounce cards. Big 8x8/12x12/20x20 silks and butterflies are going to need more then one person to wrangle and are pretty expensive for someone just making short films with their DVX.

You can rig cheap solutions with fabric and PVC pipe.

Build a frame with long handle out of PVC, get some diffusion material from your fabric store and have a PA hold it. The only problem is you can't do this on really long shots.
