Hey developers, develope this!

I've got an idea for any hardware developers. make a standalone P2 slot attached to a FireWire 800 cable.
Picture this:
You capture your footage onto the P2 card in your HVX. Take the P2 card out and plug it into a lone P2 card slot and simply plug the FireWire cable from the P2 card slot into your laptop or desktop computer and upload to your hard drive.
Small, portable, light. What's not to like?

Techies, can this be done?

I think this could be an USB 2 device, and as a matter of fact, this will be nice if some one develop it.

PC work stations do not have PCMCIA ports

Like this? You can put it in your computer or use a Power supply and USB cable and make it external.

Well it would seem like chopping off the three slots on the right and making it a 3.5" enclosure would work. That way you could replace that useless floppy drive. or if you have another empty 3.5 slot, could go there.

You could never do that for $50 ;) CardBus implements the full PCI standard if I remember right, and that's not at all trivial to replicate. You would have to somehow simulate it in software, which I would imagine is an error prone nightmare.

The reason that panasonic thing is so expensive is it's a separate backplane with a USB interface.

I think that is an ugly architectural mistake, personally. Tying the P2 sot a specific bus architecture is pretty short sighted. I don't know how else they could have done what they, however.

This crap is all in its infancy. Will be nice to see how it evolves.
